Bynum Mill & Industrial Supply Company began operation in 1986 in Star, Mississippi at the home of Gus and Cecil Bynum. Back then, they sold primarily to the sawmill industry. Working out of their home, Gus' wife, Cecil, answered the telephone and took messages while Gus was away calling on customers in about a 75 mile radius. In the afternoons, he would return home to get the messages and fill orders. Many times, Gus and Cecil would drive to Jackson at night and ship materials via UPS to finish up the day's work. On Saturdays, they had a bookkeeper come to their home to do the bookkeeping.
One year later, in 1987, their son David joined them in the business. He brought additional customers to the company affording them to hire a part-time delivery person to assist with filling orders and providing delivery services. By 1991 they had outgrown the warehouse at Star, so that fall they purchased the property and building at 520 Industrial Drive in Richland, Mississippi. In January, 1992, Bynum Mill & Industrial Supply Company moved to their new location. When this took place they hired three new positions for inside sales, warehouse manager, and delivery. In 2002, they doubled the size of the warehouse and not long afterward their daughter, Martha came on board to help keep the books. They have kept Bynum Mill & Industrial Supply a family business with Cecil and Martha in the office and Gus and David continuing to work in sales and taking care of paper work. Sales have now extended to power and transmission supplies, maintenance supplies, and to the construction and paving industry.
In 2011, Bynum Mill & Industrial Supply Company celebrated their 25th anniversary in business. They continue to enjoy participating in the business community of Richland, Mississippi. They extend their appreciation to all of the city employees for being so helpful to them. They hope to continue to prosper with their business and look forward to providing service for many years to come.
